Agnus Dei — Lamb of God

A song about Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world. The album Faith begins where our faith begins: not with our own strength, but with Christ and His sacrifice.

Scripture: John 1:29

Lyrics

Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccata mundi, miserere nobis
Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccata mundi, miserere nobis

They led Him up Golgotha, nails driven through his hands
A crown of thorns upon the King of kings and Son of men
Mocked and beaten, spit upon, rejected by His own
He carried all our failures on that cross of wood and stone

The sky turned black as midnight, the earth began to shake
As the sin of all humanity upon His shoulders lay

Every lash, every wound, every drop of holy blood was payment for the guilty
The perfect Lamb of God

Behold the Lamb upon the cross
He gave it all, He paid the cost
For every soul, for every sin, for the lost
It is finished was His cry, as heaven and earth heard the Savior die
But death could not defeat Him

His body wounded, His spirit crushed beneath the weight
The Father turned His face away, forsaken in our place
The veil was torn, the temple shook, creation cried in pain
As Jesus bore the wrath of God for all the world’s shame
Three hours of darkness, three days in the grave
The hope of every nation seemed buried with the slain

But the stone was rolled away, the grave could not contain
The power of the risen King

He is risen
Death has been defeated
He is risen
Hell has been unseated
The Lamb who was slain now reigns upon the throne
The grave is empty
Jesus Christ has overcome
He is risen
Let the heavens roar
He is risen now and forevermore
The cross was not the end
It was the dawn
Our Savior lives forevermore

Hallelujah
He is risen
Forever He is risen

Amen
