It Is Finished

A song about the final moments of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. What appeared to be defeat was the completion of His sacrifice. At the cross, Christ declared that His work was finished — the price had been paid.

Scripture: John 19:30

Lyrics

The sky went silent
The veil was torn
Night fell trembling
As mercy mourned
Dust in my lungs
Fear in my chest
Watching the fire fade
Watching the innocent rest

Blood on the ground where hope was denied
Thorns for a crown while heaven cried
Every wound speaking louder than pain
Love hanging broken beneath the rain
But beneath the sorrow
Beneath the grief
Something holy moved unseen
Was this the ending?
Was this defeat?
No—the darkness trembled beneath His feet

“It is finished!” — the silence broke apart
The weight of every shadow falling from the heart
The curse undone, the debt erased
Mercy written across the pain
Through the suffering—
Through the flame—
Love forever speaks His name

I saw despair rise up like stone
Cold as the grave, bitter and alone
Every fear whispering, “Hope is gone”
Yet heaven moved though the night seemed long
What looked like ruin became release
Through torn hands came endless peace
Can forgiveness rise from death?
Listen close—hear His final breath

“It is finished!” — the darkness lost its claim
Chains of shame collapsing in His name
The veil undone, the fear erased
Mercy standing in its place

If love could bleed—
Still not surrender—
If hope could die—
Still burn forever—
From the ashes of the suffering
A holy fire still remains

“It is finished! Death has lost its hold again
Every scar redeemed inside the suffering
No grave can hold what mercy claimed
No night can silence holy flame

Finished the sorrow
Finished the blame
Love eternal—
Still remains
And mercy remains…
